2020 is HERE! It sounds more like something out of a space movie, especially if you are more seasoned like me. In all seriousness, this is the time we usually make resolutions and want to find a better version of ourselves. Many of us want to "give something up," whether it's food or a particular beverage or just working late.
I tell my clients "instead of giving something up … do something impactful!"
Put focus on your intentions. Focus on what you want, instead of concentrating on what you do not have or what is not working. If you're going to change positively, be healthier, happier, and more productive, then take action to do something that impacts you.
Plan your goals and give yourself the time (this year) to accomplish them, instead of looking for a quick-fix. It does not mean to wait until Thanksgiving to get started; rather, it requires you to begin a planning process and program. I've made some personal goals for myself for 2020, and I'm putting my thoughts on paper for action. It is not enough to put your thoughts on paper; you must also put your effort into it, and RECORD it. I find that even the best and smartest at their craft fail to record the small wins accurately. When you keep a record of what you are doing, you visually see the progress, and this inspires you to keep going!
For example, if you want to lose 15-20 pounds, you could crash diet for 30 days and lose weight quickly. But is that healthy? Will the weight come back? My suggestion, adjust your thinking! Focus on losing 3-5 pounds per month, log your progress, and check-in with yourself. Come springtime; your total goal is likely met! You are healthier, happier, and on you are the way to another goal!
Recently, I released a tool targeted for progress monitoring that is linked to my self-development guide, Warrior Leadership: Steps to Success for Leaders on the Ground. The Warrior Leadership: Action Log takes tracking progress a step further than apps and notebooks. The Action Log is specifically designed with your end goal or vision in mind. It is designed for your 3, 6, 9, 12 months goal in mind. Indeed not a quick-fix tracker.
Do not give something up; do something.
When you attack your challenges from a constructive standpoint, then you feed and fuel a constructive spirit! Stay positive, stay healthy, and do something in 2020 for you to inspire and motivate while showing grace, kindness, and generosity.
This is your race. You own it, and only you can run it!
